First, some links . . .

This is the introduction to "The Curious Casebook of Inspector Hanshichi." Having read the whole thing, I am now very interested in reading the book itself, especially since I can't seem to find the promised serialization on the website of the Japan Times. Perhaps the serialization is finished and they took all the sites down to get us to read the book. [livejournal.com profile] subsiding_leaf-san, I remember you were looking for recomendations for good detective fiction? I haven't read this book, but maybe it's worth your while . . .

Shakespeare was quite a deft hand with insults. I used to have a Shakespearean Insults Desk Calendar; every morning when my roommate's boyfriend put on an appearance in the common room of our apartment I would greet him with that day's insult. The one I remember best was "you Branbury cheese!"

He took it all in good humor; props to him.

This Slate article is more on Obama and foreign policy. Since I'm a big fan of this diplomacy thing in the international arena, I thought I'd put it up as well.

This is of no use to me, seeing as I live in Japan, but for people who want to buy from Japanese sources and are frustrated by the lack of international shipping, tenso.com might well be a good solution. Granted you'll have to pay shipping twiceover, but shipping within Japan is quick and fairly inexpensive. It's getting stuff out of the country that really costs.

And now for a complete change of pace, I'm posting a part of the Saiunkoku Assassin AU that I work on now and then. It is currently more a set of episodes than a coherent story, but that might change in the future, I know not. Anyway, if you want to read the first part, please follow the link below before you read this installment, which takes place later.
