A random scene happened last night. Many other interesting things happened last night, like extensive discussions on public urination (I don't know why we were talking about that; it might well have sprung from our comparative analysis of Japanese vs. Western toilets. When living in a completely different culture, you have to learn not to make value judgements. "It's not better or worse, it's just different." This is true for most things, save for Japanese toilets. Although they posess an admirable simplicity in terms of design, there's really no way to get around it. Western toilets are not merely different, they are better. Now, Japanese versions of Western toilets, on the other hand . . . ), but most of them are not going to be mentioned here. Mostly because I can't remember them.

I do remember the giant cockroach ). Kinda wish I didn't.

Anyway, the random scene is of the mage and the gryphon. It amuses me very much, oh yea verily. )

The deadline for Eye of Unicorn, Tongue of Dragon is approaching. September 15, if you'll recall. I plan to submit a mage and gryphon story, so if you want to see it, you'd better submit something too.

Wow, my arrogance is truly unspeakable. I guess I like the pair of them so much I think everyone else does, as well . . .

Because three hours of Wallace Stevens is a little much to take, even for me . . . I fall back on random character rambles. I do this all the time . . . it's a chance to explore the characters, and most of it never gets written down. Thankfully, as it's all hideously bad. They're also completely random, from various characters at various times. You can ask me who and when if you're really curious.

Melodramatic character rambles! PH33R!!!! 1T 0WNZ JU!!!! )

Tiiiiired.

So I dreamed I dreamed a dream . . . I dreamed, briefly, of the mage and the gryphon, and the gryphon was tremendously out of character, and I needed to find out why. So I wrote the following. In script form because of the little hearts.

The gryphon still doesn't have a name, either. I should just bloody well make a decision about it . . . )

Before anyone tries to nail the mage for taking horrible advantage of the gryphon, they're already a couple at this point. This actually takes place after several key events in their story, that being one of them, so.

Oh, and Oasis? She and the gryphon get off on the wrong foot at first, for two reasons: first, the gryphon has an innate distrust of all females due to certain peculiarities of gryphon behavior, and second, Oasis is in love with Siyamak for quite a while, and does not appreciate the competition. So they don't like each other for a good long time, and spend much of it sniping at each other, spying on each other, etc. In fact, for most of the book the reader isn't supposed to like Oasis, either. She's a bit of a minor villain. But I decided that I really liked her, so I wasn't going to just leave things that way.

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] pirateonthebay:

Munkustrap

You are Munkustrap!

You are a definite leader, and others respond well to your self-confident and responsible handling of difficult situations. Intensely loyal, you'll always fight to the finish for your friends. However, sometimes transferring responsibilities can help others grow. Don't be too hard on yourself, and make sure you give others a chance before taking over.

Which Jazzy Jellicle Cat are You?

Dunno about the leader bit, but Munkustrap has always been my favorite. Ah, Cats, what a great musical . . .

Was exploring in London today, finding some of the more out-of-the-way sights. These include St. Clemen Dane, the official church of the RAF (heard the special chimes at 3 o'clock, too), Temple Church, which was originally the base of the Knights Templar before the order was forcefully disbanded in 1327, Twinnings tea shop (I'd been there before, but this time I got to go in), the outside of the Royal Palace of Justice (going in next time, I think), and the Sir John Soane Museum. Great fun. Spoils for the day include a tin of Earl Grey Tea, a few other Twinnings blends I wanted to try in individual teabag form, another fancy tea tin, and the last issue of 1602 which I finally found at the comic store near the British Museum. Took me a fair bit of searching, actually . . . well, it wasn't at David's Comics, and it wasn't at the Forbidden Planet Megastore . . . eh, it was worth it. I was Pleased with the ending, yes I was.

Creativity after spending an hour or two reading manga today shot skyward . . . I miss Majo, she encourages me in 3v1l . . . and no, I still haven't chosen a name for the gryphon. I need to be alone so I can say them aloud to myself a few hundred times in different voices to decide which I like best. )

Oh, and Gravitation is officially my soundtrack for Brighton.

Need advice on naming the gryphon. Current possibilities:

Cyrus means: Sun origin: Persian
Kyran means: Lord, sir origin: Persian
Zeheb means: Gold origin: Turkish
Shemesh means: Sun origin: Hebrew
Horus means: God of Light origin: Egyptian
Harmakhis means: Sun God, Sphinx origin: Egyptian
Mahes means: God of summer heat origin: Egyptian
Shamash means: Sun god origin: Babylonian

Bear in mind that it's the mage doing the naming (he's aquired one, by the by- Siyamak), and thus the dramatic nature of the names. He's like that.

Opinions? Of course I will make up my own mind, but I'd like to know what people think.

Thankee much to [livejournal.com profile] faerieboots for helping me develop the list . . . and to God Checker and Baby Names for the rest . . .
